The Ultimate in Active Retirement - What Spain Has to Offer

Retiring abroad is a dream which, happily, more and more people are now able to realise.

The key to successful retirement housing has been, and always will be, the provision of services without adopting an institutional lifestyle. It is not communal living, as residents have their own home with the same facilities as in any other home.

Conventional Housing is still the majority purchase for people in retirement, whether it is a country cottage with roses over the door, a bungalow, townhouse or serviced apartment. However, there is now a range of specialist developments, aimed at the independent retired market, which could offer the ultimate solution in retirement living.

Such developments are planned to incorporate a distinctive village atmosphere and to offer a 24-hour on-site medical service and security, so that residents can relax and enjoy a worry-free retirement. The main focus is on those properties close to facilities and amenities, thereby reducing the need for a second move when living on your own.

Retirement Housing is generally purpose-built accommodation for people who have reached a certain age, but who do not need nursing care and just want easier day-to-day living, to make life more comfortable. It is usually in the form of grouped houses or apartments, with a package of estate management services provided. The service charges depend mainly on the facilities plus the level of care and services available on each development.

Before the 1990s there was no private retirement housing for sale as such in Spain, and very little elsewhere in the world except the United Kingdom. Today there are many attractive developments springing up in Spain, many within walking distance of shops and with design features to suit this age group: courtyard cottages, bungalows or apartments with private or shared gardens, and in the properties themselves low thresholds, straight stairs, and low window sills. However, the best retirement properties give you no real indication that you are living in a retirement home.

Having a successful history in purpose-built property for the retired Kei Homes are well placed to help you find the sort of home that you may be looking for. A home where you keep your personal independence, and a home with exclusive ownership or tenancy.
